This is also from my latest collection.
The first layer is water dots and the comes wind brushing and
red/ crimson line-waves.
It has also a KIRIE effect at the end.
I always love the Bamboo motif,
maybe because my family name TAKEDA means Bamboo field.
maybe I am just attracted by their unique atmosphere.
Bamboos are strong, flexible, atmospheric, growing fast, creates nice sound,
fits to all seasons, poetic, eatable, has many usages
and great to paint either with colour or black ink.
They can grow 100m long and only straight ahead to the sunlight
- and need a lot of water.
There is a famous Zen proverb saying:
Flower for meaning
Bamboo for feeling
Next time when you see bamboo, try to hear what they has to say to you?!

UNSUI is a Zen word means being free and natural.
In fact it originally discribes free and natural spirit of travelling young monk
who lerned and meditated very hard in the monastry for a long
and just began to practise the teachings and to experience outside world.
How can they apply the teachings to reality?!
I put my all the time favourite - goldfish and
the visual movement and image of Unsui together.
And the shape of goldfish is created to have a KIRIE( Japanese cutting paper collage ) illusion.
This is one of the latest collections which I made 7 paintings all in a similar colour theme and motives.
goldfish, water and clouds moving swimming and flowing.
Have a beautiful summer holiday.

Cherry blossom this year is the taste of bitter tears.
Even their blue sorrow,
Sakura would be just happy
if it would cleanse our souls
and give us healing -
would give us courage,
remind us of our deep belief,
and keep giving us light and hope-
more moments as possible
more people as possible
Cherry blossom this year looks painfully beautiful.

Painted poem Gallery 「Enso- Hanazo」
01-26,2011
I combined the classic callgraphic Enso and a sense of celebrated life.
In the poem, I put my wish and hope
- more from us will have beautiful blossoms.
Enso is the circle
peace, strength, elegance, the Universe, and the void.
For me Enso symbolizes wholeness, togetherness and harmony –
that we can start to reach within ourselves first.
Enso can be said is like * the window of KOKORO *
( * Japanese word : mind, spirit, feeling, heart )
It seems to me the goal, the process and the beginning at the same time
as we try to reach a lay of SATORI - Enlightenment.
Enso always reminds me of the essence of life.

The inspiration for my work is
everyday life’s living words and letters,
as well as living colours, lines, patterns and shapes
– I will never get bored with how they communicate with each other
and how they create a new form of endless impression.
And always - a passion to discover a continuity of time and spiritual existence.
Here is a tale of NOW and THEN.

ZEN word, KISSAKO ‘ Have a cup of tea ! ’
11-17,2010
You might have seen the KISSAKO calligraphy
In Japanese Tea house, Ryokan hotel, shop, tea room, or maybe in a good restraint.
Specially it is very popular for SADO tea ceremony room.
The philosophy goes also for the person who makes and offers a cup of tea.
It reflects :
Whenever we make a cup of tea
one should just purely focus our body, feeling, mind and spirit on MAKING the tea
and offering it with full-heart to our guests.
- So the tea will taste good, make the guest calm and relaxed or warm,
and make them feel a momnet of joy-
This Zen philosophy became a pure practiced hospitality in Japan.
Would you like a cup of tea?!
*

KISSAKO
‘ Have a cup of tea ! ’
This Zen word includes the Zen teaching of enriching life.
Whenever we have a sip of tea,
one should just enjoy the taste of sip,
and feel the life - energy and space in mind.

Neo-Japonism : Tea Ceremony and Kimono
11-08,2010
In the last Chanoyu lesson, we learned MAWARIBANA which is sort of playful Ikebana
- each guest and the host put a flower in, and out-
and rearrange the art of Flowers before the actual Tea Service.
It felt like a flower card game - with the fresh seasonal flowers!
I found it so playful and artistic - also amazing way of sharpen an artistic sense.

For me it was also KIMONO day!
I am getting better at KITSUKE ( the art of wearing KIMONOs )
This time it took me 40 min.! ---getting there.
An antique Kimono I got from my friend's grandma- it has a beautiful shinny silver silk work,
and a touch of Art deco design.
OBI is quite modern, got it from my sister's mother in low- she is a hairdresser in Japan, so she's got a nice collection of Kimonos and Obis. ( In Japan hairdressers do the KIMONO dressing and stylings )
A bag is from a charity shop in London- maybe it was a 5-er!?
and a pair of off-white long sleeved gloves.

My trick is to use the European Antique Brooch as OBI- stopper!

Going to the tea ceremony lesson, wearing Kimono every two weeks----
Just such a beautiful treat for me!!
( So glad that my teacher lives down the road!! 5min to walk with KIMONO on..... not bad. )
A happy KIMONO life !

BODY ART and KYUDO
10-13,2010
For me as a body artist,
the most exciting moment is that the calligraphy
and its meaning starts to live and move as it is calligraphied on the skin.
This time I did the body art photo session with Gilles Mangeon-san.
He learns KYUDO the art of Japanese archery, and teaches also around this area.

I know the state of MUSHIN mind through Shodo calligraphy, Sado tea ceremony and Kendo practices,
but the concentration for Kyudo seems much more intense!!
And sure... you need much power!!

The text goes- * YUMI NO KOKORO *
- the spirit of archery.

And I did not realize how long this YUMI is!!
I mean it is a beautiful hand work!!
And so elegant as it bends.

I like this soft intervene between Body Art and Traditional KYUDO!- it becomes so natural yet fresh.

Nowadays we use this word more as : being into something, indulge in something.
I try to meditate everyday even for a short period of time like 15 min. just in order to clean the filter in me.
And I become fulfilled with just playfully indulging in meditation, detaching from egoistic mind!

I spread and let this perfume float around you
just because I make you sleep deep
I show you these forms, and beg you to give me a smile
just because I devote myself to you
This smooth and fine texture is there
to calm your mind down
I keep showing so many impression-full modest colours to you
just because I would like to give you a joy
The crimson pattern is my feeling -
which became flower-sound to heal you
which became a part of rhapsody
I just play this crimson poem, so you will cheer up.

It is always nice to welcome the Autumn season with beautiful Chrysanthemum.
with Chrysanthemum viewing and Chrysanthemum rice wine.
Here is some flower words for Chrysanthemum:
' noble, please trust me, feminine love, purifying, truth love, broken romance '
- and there are some little differences in each colour.
Chrysanthemum symbolizes not only Autumn, but also kindness, a long and strong life.
So I painted this panting for somebody who I'd like to pay my thankfulness and respect to.
And I put my deep wish - that she will live strong and long -
just like a beautiful wild Chrysanthemum.

Neo-Japonism: POETRY : 'AMENIMO MAKEZU 'By Kenji Miyazawa
09-17,2010
' AMENIMO MAKEZU'
This is one of my most favorite Poems.
So many times I read
Still each time I read
the depth of the poem touches me deeper, - soaking into my mind and body.
When I am sad, it gives me vigor
When I lost a sense of balance, it gives me a warm whip
When I am fulfilled, it gives me its worth-value and a deep joy
- always all straight and honest ways -
A magic poem which lighten my heart up.
It may also cheer you up?!

Translation
not losing to the rain
not losing to the wind
not losing to the snow nor to summer's heat
with a strong body
unfettered by desire
never losing temper
cultivating a quiet joy
every day four bowls of brown rice
miso and some vegetables to eat
in everything
count yourself last and put others before you
watching and listening, and understanding
and never forgetting
in the shade of the woods of the pines of the fields
being in a little thatched hut
if there is a sick child to the east
going and nursing over them
if there is a tired mother to the west
going and shouldering her sheaf of rice
if there is someone near death to the south
going and saying there's no need to be afraid
if there is a quarrel or a suit to the north
telling them to leave off with such waste
when there's drought, shedding tears of sympathy
when the summer's cold, wandering upset
called a blockhead by everyone
without being praised
without being blamed
such a person

One of my favorites.
So strong and yet vain -
strikingly beautiful and sexy.
He looks at you so straight so that you feel pushed and humble away from his energy.
I really like the photos from the post war to the late 60's in Japan
- they have got a special strong contrast in lights and shadows, and also the theme of crushed elements- OLD and MODERN.

That was the way of expressing their love

they stay together till one of them dies
How overwhelmed
- they are able to do such beautiful dance
till they die
I find it
terribly
beautiful

I decided to pick the word which is simple and deep - one of my favorite Japanese words:
Arigatou / Thank you / Danke
The word quell of Arigatou is from ARIGATASHI- is composed of two words:
the verb ari "to be" and the adjective katashi "difficult".
The original meaning was "difficult to be, or difficult to exist",
and then developed into the meaning of "rare" and thus "special",
- -* worthy of being thankful for.*
Buddhistically saying , Arigatou is being thankful for being given life and love.
Only later the use of Arigato as we know *Thank you * spreaded.
The adjective form appears in the oldest literature of the 10th century
* MAKURANOSOUSHI- The Pillow Book *.
Some believes that it is most positive and most therapeutic word to say for both mind and body.
You'd be amazed how many things that are worth of being thankful for!

I was very happy to see you all!
- I was very busy all the time - so feeling pity that I did not have much time to speak to you.
All your heartful encouraging words will be transformed into my creative energy!
I thank you!
ARIGATOU.
P.S. I will soon update some of nice opening party photos, looking forward to them!

When I painted this poem and picture,

- and yet I felt very warm -
